A non-Chromium headless engine for DOM and JavaScript automation, with a separate managed cloud service.
Browser infrastructureopen source
Lightpanda occupies the browser execution layer. Its local agent and cloud Chrome option are explicitly separate paths: choosing Chrome in the cloud does not establish that the Lightpanda engine renders the same page or supports every browser API.

LOOK ELSEWHERE WHEN
You require pixel-faithful screenshots of rendered websites
You assume Chrome security defaults or full Playwright Test parity
Fit recommendations are editorial interpretations of the documented architecture.

SOURCE
runtime — engine
The browser is built in Zig rather than forked from Chromium and executes JavaScript without a graphical rendering engine; website compatibility must be checked for the actual workload.
integration — cdp
The documented Playwright integration connects over CDP in JavaScript or Python. This connection path does not establish complete Playwright Test or Chromium feature parity.
runtime — engine-choice
Cloud CDP defaults to Lightpanda; browser=chrome explicitly selects Chrome. Results obtained with Chrome must not be attributed to the Lightpanda engine.
deployment — local-cloud
Local mode exposes CDP/BiDi, MCP and the built-in agent; the Cloud interface matrix lists partial MCP coverage and no built-in AI-agent endpoint.
security / telemetry — telemetry
The owner documents anonymous local usage telemetry and a LIGHTPANDA_DISABLE_TELEMETRY switch. Local execution does not by itself imply that a selected external LLM receives no data.
pricing — billing
Cloud browser time is metered by the second. Free hours stop at exhaustion; paid overages continue. Concurrency overflow returns 429, CDP connections close after 15 minutes, and idle MCP sessions after five minutes.
pricing — limits
Builder lists 300 included browser hours per month and 30 concurrent sessions. Monthly commitment, included usage and overage must remain separate calculation inputs.
runtime / output — markdown-images
Version 0.4.0 adds PNG screenshots and PDF output rendered from page markdown. These outputs do not establish graphical layout fidelity for visual agents.
security / cors — cors-default
Version 0.4.1 describes CORS enforcement as experimental and off by default. Browser-security behavior must be checked against the chosen release and launch flags.

Know the boundary
Markdown image output is not graphical webpage rendering.
CORS in 0.4.1 is experimental and disabled by default; review flags before using untrusted pages.
No vendor speed ratio is treated as an independent computer-use success score. Exact agent run revisions remain unverified.
Local mode can still send data to a configured model provider; telemetry has its own documented switch.
See Billing meters & conditions below for source dates, units and freshness. No unified calculator quote is available for this product; separately billed services are not a single total price.
Evidence, scope & unresolved questions
Stack classification: L4. Verified means the cited source supports the statement; it does not mean COMPUTER USE independently tested the product.

status
Lightpanda publishes an open-source headless browser engine and a separate managed Cloud offering; this profile scopes claims to the named engine or service.
Verified against official documentation; not independently executed or security-certified.

Billing meters & conditions
Each amount belongs to the named service, plan and unit. Subscription, runtime, steps and tokens cannot be ranked as a single cheapest price. Rates expire after 14 days; unresolved conflicts are excluded.
Lightpanda 0.4.0 stops loading iframes and workers by default; callers must explicitly enable those resources. Markdown-rendered PNG/PDF output is not a full graphical webpage screenshot.
